Gillon McLachlan Says De Goey CAN'T Use ADHD Diagnosis As Bali Excuse

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan says troubled Collingwood star Jordan De Goey cannot use his recent ADHD diagnosis to justify his behaviour in Bali.

Midielder-forward De Goey was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) last year.

The 26-year-old has taken personal leave from the Pies after he was hit with a $25,000 suspended fine and had a rich contract offer withdrawn by the club over footage of him partying in Bali and AZMovies trying to expose an Instagram model's breast in a nightclub.

'Anyone with medical conditions needs to be taken seriously.

Mental health is a real issue, so I am absolutely supportive of people talking about their issues. I think the point I would make here is, it's important context, but it's not an excuse for what's going on,' McLachlan said on radio 3AW.

'When people start getting into all that, it's not my space.
I am pretty clear, I don't think it's an excuse. It's worth talking about because people, I think, it's important to talk about the conditions they have and to get treatment but I don't think it's an excuse here instinctively.'

McLachlan said the AFL stayed out of the investigation as they were satisfied with the calls that Collingwood made.

'I won't get into the individual specifics other than to say our position at the AFL is really clear - there is no place other than behaviour across our community that has total respect for women.

'The video has created a debate across the community and, ultimately, the assessment of Collingwood, it was behaviour that didn't respect women and they have taken action.'

On Thursday morning, 3AW Radio host Neil Mitchell had a heated argument with Eddie McGuire after the former Pies boss accused him of 'making a mockery' of De Goey's diagnosis.

Mitchell responded by calling McGuire a 'nasty bastard' as the pair engaged in an ugly confrontation for around 20 minutes.

'This is the same Eddie who called [Indigenous AFL star] Adam Goodes 'King Kong' and wanted to drown [footy journalist] Caroline Wilson at the Big Freeze,' Mitchell replied.

McGuire had earlier said De Goey is living in a parallel universe where people only care about reality TV shows like Married At First sight and Love Island.

Rival clubs Essendon, North Melbourne and St Kilda have previously hinted at making a play for De Goey if he leaves Collingwood.

McLachlan believes the Magpies are actively working on cultural change at the club, despite De Goey's Bali video emerging shortly before Jack Ginnivan and Isaac Quaynor's were slated for rating women out of 10 in TikTok videos.
