NFL Players And Money

NFL Players And Money

One of the questions folks always ask me about being an NFL player is, "what's it like making a lot money at such a young age?"

I've to say that it is very troublesome to go from being younger and having no cash to being young and a millionaire because you don't know find out how to be financially responsible. It's just like successful the lottery, and as you know from reading about lottery winners, most lottery winners go broke within 10 years after successful the lottery. Well, it isn't that a lot different with professional sports players. The reason for this is most professional athletes, and lottery winners, had been by no means taught cash management skills. Going from being broke someday to being a millionaire the next day is a big change in your life, mostly because after you have money, everybody wants you to present it to them, and more often than not you do.

I got here from a single household home without a father, which is something many professional NFL players have in common. I am additionally African American and my family didn't have some huge cash, which is also very common amongst NFL players. Because of this, I used to be by no means taught methods to manage money responsibly and plan for my future. I went from being broke someday to being drafted into the NFL and becoming a millionaire.

An enormous problem with being younger and having a lot of money is the pressure by just about eachbody together with fellow players to spend some huge cash very quickly. When you're rich, everybody needs your money, especially your family and friends. My mom, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, etc. all wished to borrow cash from me. And naturally I gave it to them. Then, you've gotten girlfriends and wives who want you to buy them a number of costly presents like vehicles, jewelry and garments because you might be rich they usually need to show off to their friends. You also have charities, buyers, and businesspeople all asking for your money--and you end up giving it to them.

However probably the worst of all is the other players because when it involves cash it is the blind leading the blind. We all spend our money as if it will by no means run out because we are uneducated in financial responsibility. For instance, so that you can be cool and respected by the opposite players, it's important to keep up with them. So, if one player buys a new SUV, you need to purchase one too. I mean, you possibly can't be an NFL player and drive a normal automotive like a Honda Civic. It's important to drive an expensive Hummer, Cadillac Escapade, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc.

You additionally should have a huge expensive house. All the other players do and if you happen to just live in a median house, they look down at you. So, we spend a fortune buying big houses for ourselves and for our parents that we don't need. And of course there's the jewelry. We spend a lot money on jewelry it is insane. It is nothing for a player to spend $100,000 a 12 months or more shopping for jewelry, and that is just for us. That does not include all of the jewelry we purchase for our family, wives, and girlfriends. It is all extraordinarily irresponsible. However, when you will have so many individuals putting pressure on you every single day to purchase things and keep up with the other NFL players, it turns into a lot easier to say yes than to say no, even as you are watching all your money disappear.

One other problem is as a wealthy NFL player, you are anticipated to flip the bill for everything. Whenever you exit to restaurant, you are the person who pays for everybody. And, once you exit with different players or your buddies, it is always to a fancy club where we go to the VIP part and spend hundreds of dollars on fancy champagne and drinks--for everybody. I've known players who've spent over $25,000 in a single night at a club. After which they go and do it again and again so they can be the "big man."

Another problem NFL players have is ladies who're after us for our money and our status. And many of these girls are gold diggers. If we weren't rich athletes these lovely ladies would probably not look twice at us. But now that we are rich and well known, girls chase us constantly. This nearly always leads to us marrying a woman we should not marry and then getting divorced after a few years and shedding a big percentage of our cash within the divorce. I made this mistake myself and it price me dearly and still costs me.
